The bulk of the collection consists of accounts of William Rust Baskervill (1798-1884), some relating to the remodeling of the house at "Waverley," Mecklenburg County, Va. Also included is correspondence (chiefly with family members and merchants), account books, farm journals, and legal documents (including slave lists and later contracts with African American tenant farmers). Also included are scattered correspondence, accounts, account books, and legal documents of Dr. Robert Dortch Baskervill (1826-1891) of "Eureka," Mecklenburg County, including accounts while a student at the University of Virginia, medical accounts (including some with African Americans), accounts for farm management (some with African American laborers), and records of slave births. Miscellaneous volumes include account books of William Baskervill (1756-1814) as clerk of court of Mecklenburg County and as a merchant; and diaries, 1833-1872, of Sallie P. (Turner) Alexander (b. 1811?) of "Park Forest," Mecklenburg County.
